The M.A.T. process
Muscle Activation Techniques™ (MAT™) is a systematic approach that targets muscle imbalances by finding the root causes that lead to the mechanical dysfunction. At Dynamism, we strive to get your body back to peak performance condition naturally.
Muscle tightness may occur for several reasons, including long periods of sitting (at the computer, for example), a sudden trauma like a fall, or chronic overuse or over training. While it is normal to feel fatigue, you may not have given your body the time it needs to heal itself. When this happens habitually the body’s central nervous system protects the muscle by tightening it up, inhibiting movement. The result is imbalance, strains and injury.

About Me
Being active has always played an important role in my life. Growing up, I participated in hockey, baseball, track, and cheerleading, just to name a few. More recently I discovered a passion for rock-climbing, hiking, trail running and biking. Recently been dabbling with Xterra racing and loving it.
At age 19, I was confronted with some hard challenges within my body that lead me to really question where my future was headed as an athlete.
When my performance in sport seemed to be on a consistent downhill slide, I started to seek out specialists to try to manage my body which seemed to be falling apart. I knew something wasn’t right when getting out of bed in the morning started to feel like a chore, and my 90-year-old grandmother moved better than I did.
What I didn’t realize was that high-intensity training was more of a detriment to my body’s health than a benefit.
As I started seeking answers, I felt isolated and misunderstood as I was passed from one specialist to another who suggested that my lack of progress was my fault. They stated “you didn’t do your exercises” or “you’re just making up symptoms” or “you’ll just have to cope with this.
Thankfully, I discovered MAT and was able to reduce my muscle pain and discomfort, which allowed me to get back to the activities I loved doing. More importantly, it restored my faith in my body’s ability to perform at a high level.
After seeing first-hand what a difference MAT made in my life, I decided to make it my life quest to help others get back to good health and enjoy their favorite activities.
My passion is to help anyone who was active or is currently active but has been experiencing setbacks due to compensation patterns that have led to stiffness, loss of range, or debilitating pain.
Together, we can develop a training regime that’s based on quality not quantity.
Q&A
What is MAT?
Muscle Activation Technique re-establishes the proper neuromuscular function in our bodies by getting muscles to fire more efficiently.
Who is MAT for?
Everyone. MAT is beneficial for everyone from elite athletes to rehabilitation patients. We treat active adults looking to maintain a healthy body as well as children looking to develop their skills in a variety of sports.
Why would MAT help me?
MAT evaluates an individual’s ability to produce efficient muscle contractions. Loss of muscle contractions leads to decreased range of motion therefore affecting physical performance.Grab a water bottle. Twist open the top using your hands. Now take away one finger and perform the same task, and repeat it again taking away 2 fingers. Keep repeating this drill until you can only use your palms. You can see how a simple task becomes infinitely harder as your function is increasingly compromised. Your body works the same way! With less muscles participating effectively participating, your day to day tasks become more difficult. MAT helps you restore your ability to utilize all your muscles to their best capabilities.
How does MAT work?
Range of Motion – comparing you to you, asymmetries in ranges indicate potential areas where muscles may not be firing as efficiently as they could be.
Muscle Test – indicates which muscles have decreased contractibility.
Muscle Palpation – precise force is applied to the muscle attachment points, to restore the muscle’s efficiency. After these palpations, the muscle test is done again to see if the muscles’ ability to fire appropriately is returned.
Is MAT covered by insurance?
Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) is considered a non-medical service, similar to personal training. If your insurance plan includes coverage for gym memberships or personal training under a health and wellness spending account, your sessions may be eligible for reimbursement. However, MAT is not widely recognized by most insurance companies, so it’s best to check with your provider for specific details. If coverage isn’t available, I’m sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
MAT and Chiropractic Care.
Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) and chiropractic care work hand in hand by addressing both muscle function and joint alignment. MAT focuses on identifying and correcting muscle imbalances or weaknesses that can cause the body to compensate and place stress on joints. Chiropractic care, on the other hand, helps restore proper joint motion and alignment.
When used together, MAT helps the body better support and maintain chiropractic adjustments by improving muscle stability, while chiropractic care ensures joints are moving efficiently so muscles can function properly. This combination often leads to longer-lasting results, improved movement, and a more balanced, resilient body.
MAT also pairs well with other modalities such as physiotherapy, massage therapy, and athletic training, creating a well-rounded approach to recovery, performance, and overall health.
